John passed away at U.V.M. Medical Center on September 16, 2026 at the age of 60, from injuries sustained in a fall that left him paralyzed since December of 2024.

He was born on October 14, 1965 in St. Albans, Vermont to Jerry and Mary (Raymond) Yates.

He grew up on the family farm in Fairfield, Vermont with his siblings Linda (Greg) Hodet, Lisa (David) Paradee, Tom (Lynne) Yates, Lori (Dale Moore) Lamos, and Steve (Robin) Yates. He enjoyed driving tractors, riding ATVs, hunting, and boiling sap in the family sugarhouse. Later in life he fulfilled his dream of getting his CDL and becoming an over the road truck driver.

He met the love of his life, Cathy, on a blind date that led to two and a half years of traveling across the United States together on his runs. John and Cathy were married on November 16, 2016, adding her children Forest Anderson (Samantha Forrest), Heather Anderson (husband Chris Maynard).

John was always a "quiet instigator" who loved getting his nieces and nephews riled up. His shenanigans continued with his step grandchildren who lovingly called him "Grizzly".

Besides his wife, mother and siblings, he leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Courtney, Melanie, Britany, Katelyn, Hunter, Hudson, Caryssa, Morgan, Jenyssa and Cayden, his step grandchildren Rhea Anderson and Theryn Maynard, his father and mother-in-law Clifton and Carol-Ann Vorse, his sister-in-laws Jo Ann (Calvin) Bourn, and Jennifer (Scott) Kirkpatrick, his uncle Ken Raymond and his aunt Pat Raymond, several cousins, and ten great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind "his boy", his beloved Golden Retriever "Rip".

John's family would like to thank Jeff and Linda Corey, Susan Dunham, and Rick and Tina Yates for all their love and support they provided to John and Cathy.

A very special thank you to ALL the staff at U.V.M. Medical Center that lovingly cared for John.

A celebration of John's life will be held on Friday October 9, 2026 at 12 o'clock noon to 4 PM, with refreshments to follow; at the Enosburg American Legion Post 42 located at 108 Depot Street in Enosburg Falls, VT. Wear your favorite flannel. Bring a story to tell at the celebration, or write it down for the memory box. Bring a small item if you would like to contribute to John's memory box; be it a couple rifle shells, a note, or another little momento.
