On May 1st, David Sankus left the world as we know it. He is Survived by his wife & best friend Debble; daughters Staysea Sumner & Tiffany Fahl (Kevin Sokal), along with his 6 amazing grandchildren. Connor, Olevia, Maddie, Drew, Alexxus & Chloe. It’s very comforting knowing he is reunited with his son Andy, whom he missed since his passing in 2015.
David was known for his quiet demeanor, dry sense of humor and gentle mannerisms. He loved his yearly trips to Mexico, gambling, reading, high end beer and endless hours of puzzling. He enjoyed days spent out in the yard maintaining gardens and having bonfires including laughs with Chad & Bunny the dog.
David graduated from Woburn Senior High in the Class of 1963. Following graduation he served with the US Navy as Fire Controlman Second Class aboard the USS New Jersey. Then attending the University of Massachusetts Lowell, ultimately earning an Electrical Engineering Degree from the University of Syracuse, NY. Life as a computer programmer, father and friend to many, he retired after 37 years at IBM. He went on as a consultant with his long time colleague and friend JJ, sharing his decades of expertise for a few years before taking on a full-time position at the Jericho Post Office where he enjoyed being part of his community.
David was admired and respected by all the unending outreach by those who knew him has been incredible; fellow coworkers, friends, family and even the medical staff with whom he developed relationships over the last few decades. A common theme of persistence, perseverance and peace seem to be his legacy.
Private services will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts. The family asks that donations be made to the Navy Safe Harbor Foundation.
